Sean Kerr is a seasoned Chartered Accountant (SA) with a wealth of experience in financial management and regulatory compliance across global financial and industrial sectors. His career includes pivotal roles with Deloitte, JP Morgan, and a decade as a Partner at EY, where he specialized in assurance, AML, and sanctions compliance. Prior to joining Africoal, Sean led South African operations for a major global industrial group, overseeing financial functions that accounted for the majority of its global business.

As CFO of Africoal, Sean brings a balanced approach, combining strong financial acumen with a practical understanding of what’s needed on the ground to drive results. He takes an unconventional approach to assessing financial models and evaluating the group’s capabilities, leveraging insights that go beyond traditional metrics to ensure operational resilience and adaptability. Working closely with CEO Ross Robertson, Sean plays a vital role in the operational aspects of the business, ensuring that Africoal’s mining operations are efficient and well-supported. He also oversees key support functions—including IT, HR, and other essential departments—to equip the business for success. Through active stakeholder engagement, Sean strengthens Africoal’s partnerships and aligns on strategic goals, fostering a culture of efficiency and performance to support sustainable growth in the coal sector.
