Social and Labour Plan & Corporate Social Initiatives
Empowering our Impacted mining communities through our SLP requirements and Corporate Social Initiatives.
“As Africoal SA we are striving to alleviate the economic challenges of the impacted communities by investing in legacy projects which are focused on the Education Sector."
Mokibe Primary School
School Handover: Rebuilding Hope
After a devastating fire destroyed much of their school, we committed R5.4 million to constructing a new facility. The project delivered 18 modern classrooms, a hall, a feeding scheme kitchen, and sufficient ablution facilities, giving 600 local learners a safe and supportive environment to thrive.
School Uniforms: Restoring Dignity
In addition to constructing the new school, we provided sponsored uniforms to all 600 students, ensuring they not only have a safe place to learn but also feel a renewed sense of pride, dignity, and confidence in their educational journey.
Okhela Primary School
A Legacy for Learning
Founded in 1975 with the generous support of Mr. Potgieter, Okhela Primary served the growing community for decades. In response to aging infrastructure and urgent maintenance needs, Africoal SA stepped in to renovate the school, improving facilities and ensuring a better learning environment for local students.
Upgrading for the Future
As part of Africoal SA’s Social and Labour Plan, Okhela Primary underwent a complete transformation. The renovations included a new office block, the replacement of pit toilets with modern facilities, and much-needed repairs, ensuring the school can continue to thrive for future generations.

Women's Day 2024
Recognising the Women in our Team
At Africoal, we honour the incredible women who drive our success. This Women’s Day, we celebrated with a special event to show our appreciation for their hard work and dedication. Empowering our team remains at the heart of our commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive workplace.
Social Development
We contribute to host communities through our focus on local employment, by doing business with small, medium and micro-sized enterprises in our direct areas of operation and our investment in projects that will make a meaningful impact on people’s lives. Africoal has dedicated community liaison officers who regularly engage with local stakeholders on issues of mutual concern.
One of our latest Social and Labour Plan projects involves an R10 million investment in Klarinet, eMalahleni with the construction of a brand-new school for local learners. A large portion of their previous school was destroyed in a blaze several years ago and, until recently, 600 children were educated in just seven dilapidated classrooms and under the trees. They also shared three pit latrines.
The project involves the construction of 8 classrooms, a hall and feeding scheme kitchen as well as sufficient ablution facilities to cater for the entire school body.
