Albert Krige - Chief Operations Officer
Before being appointed as COO in December 2022, Albert was Africoal’s general manager overseeing daily business activities, improving overall business functions, managing heads of departments, managing budgets, developing strategic plans, creating policies, and communicating business goals. Prior to this role Albert led the technical services department comprising of survey, mine planning and geology. He was awarded with 2 intercompany awards for the successful development of two of the group’s single biggest operations. Before joining the Africoal team in 2018 he was the operations manager for the Gecko Africa group where he spent 7 years , highlights during this time was the successful development of the 2nd most profitable diamond mine in Zimbabwe, as well as a graphite and fluorspar mine for the French owned Imerys group in Namibia’s Otjiwarongo region. He also had an integral part in the planning and successful execution of 4 opencast Glencore owned coal mines in the Witbank coalfields.
With 22-years mining experience both underground as well as opencast in commodities ranging from platinum, diamond, graphite, coal and fluorspar Alberts expertise isn’t limited to only the production aspect of mining but also financial with Xeras certification as well as Civil construction with SAICE certification for project management of earthmoving equipment and technology. Albert started his mining career in 2001 at Impala platinum mines as a learner official with a bursary to study metalliferous mine engineering at the Witwatersrand School of Mines currently known as University of Johannesburg. After spending 10 years in the underground mining sector, he made a shift to opencast mining in 2011 to further develop his mining portfolio. Considered a seasoned miner, well versed in all aspects of mining and associated services.
