Africoal operates The Wilge Laboratory, a state-of-the-art facility established in 2015 to provide comprehensive testing services across all our processing plants. The Wilge Lab is dedicated to upholding the highest quality standards, with a focus on continual improvement in line with the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements.

As a trusted part of Africoal’s operations, The Wilge Lab ensures impartiality, confidentiality, and reliable results through validated test methods. With 80% of the staff having been with the lab since its inception, the team brings extensive experience, loyalty, and professionalism to every project.

All laboratory services at The Wilge Lab are fully accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standards, ensuring accurate and compliant testing for Africoal’s operations:

• Calorific Value (CV) Analysis: Using LECO AFRICA AC500 machines for dependable calorific value testing.
• Sampling and Sample Preparation: Equipped to handle up to 1000 kg of material, ensuring consistent sample quality.
• Proximate Analysis: Includes ISO Ash, Quick Ash, Inherent Moisture, and Volatile Matter testing.
• Total Sulphur Analysis: Leveraging the LECO S832 machine with an auto-loader for fast, reliable sulphur testing.
• Dry & Wet Screening: Comprehensive screening options available to meet various testing needs.
• Abrasive Index Testing: Conducted according to Eskom methods for precision results.
